Barraco Barner - Or Why Voters Should Be Uninformed!

This ladies name is Gemma Worrall, she has recently achieved world wide fame for misspelling the name of the guy who reads a Teleprompter for the corporate elite in the United States, and confusing him with another guy who does a similar job in the United Kingdom.

Ms. Worrall's intelligence has been called into question as a result of this lapse of judgement, but as the following Learn Liberty video demonstrates, she's actually being entirely rational in not knowing anything about politics, if not in her decision to then tweet about it!

And from now on, on this site, the aforementioned Teleprompter reader will always be referred to as 'Barraco Barner'.  I'm sure he'd prefer it to being called Barack the Bomber or Barry Soetoro or anything like that.

Libertarian ANARCHY on the Isle of Man

On the Isle of Man complaining about Government seems to be the national sport. Whether it's toilet taxes, hotel bailouts or ridiculous over expenditure on capital projects, we all love a good moan about the Gov. But have you ever considered if the problem is not the individuals running government, but rather the very concept of government itself? Do we really need a government at all? Would society fall into chaos without its guiding hand? Would big corporations end up owning everything? Who would provide essential services? Is a stateless society just a utopian fantasy?

On Saturday 22nd of March Professor Gerard Casey will be visiting the Island to present his case that society does not need government to function and in fact we would be much better off without it. Far from being a utopian fantasy, a stateless society based on voluntary interactions and exchanges would be both more moral and functional than our current system of taxation based on violent coercion, and such a society is achievable any time we choose it.

To quote from Professor Casey's book Libertarian Anarchy -

  

"States are criminal organizations. All states, not just the obviously totalitarian or repressive ones. I intend this statement to be understood literally and not as some form of rhetorical exaggeration.

American Anthrax

Remember the postal anthrax attacks of 2001?  The ones that killed 5 people. The ones that came with notes saying in broken English such things as 'DEATH TO AMERICA. DEATH TO ISRAEL. ALLAH IS GREAT'.  I do.  I was working in an office at the time and we were issued with gloves to open the mail, just in case Osama or Saddam or whoever was responsible sent some anthrax our way.  Actually, it turns out if we had received some it wouldn't have come from the Middle East, it would have come from the United States Armies own bio weapons laboratory, that was the conclusion of the FBI investigation anyway.

Robbie Martin has produced a documentary exploring the strange story surrounding these attacks, ultimately questioning if they were in fact an 'inside job' used to generate a climate of fear and beat the drums of war for Iraq.  Here he is being interviewed on this by his sister, Abby -

WiFi banned from pre-schools in France

"(NaturalNews) The French National Assembly has adopted a bill to limit exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) generated by wireless technologies - cell phones, tablets, Wi-Fi etc. This bill will mean the following:

• A ban on Wi-Fi in all childcare facilities for children under the age of 3.
• Cell phone manufacturers will have to recommend the use of hand-free kits.
• A ban on all advertising targeting children under 14."

A Learn Liberty video about an innovative wolf conservation program, explained by Laura Huggins of the Property and Environment Research Center (PERC).  PERC explores the role free markets and property rights can play in protecting the environment and conserving endangered species by thinking in terms of establishing the correct economic incentives for conservation.  This is interesting to me as typical solutions in this area consist of stronger state controls and regulations, with markets seen as being things that are hostile to conservation.  We live in a time where we're in danger of witnessing the extinction of many species and surely all options need to be on the table when considering the best action to take to prevent this.  Even if you find it distasteful that animals should have to justify themselves by producing profit for someone, high moral ground isn't going to feel very good when they're all extinct.

Another Grammy Awards, Another Occult Ceremony

Definitely one of the weirdest things I've ever come across is the prevalence of occult/mind control/demonic themes in the popular music industry. It's so weird in fact that there's no way I'd blog about this stuff unless I felt a cast-iron case had been made.   To my mind the anonymous blogger Vigilant Citizen has made such a case.   In his latest article he examines the recent Grammy awards ceremony, in particular Kate Perry's black magic demon summoning performance.

"The 2014 Grammy Awards featured a black magic witchcraft ritual disguised as a Katy Perry performance. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. This has been going on for years. We’ll look at the Illuminati Agenda pushed in the 2014 Grammy Awards."

Finally an awareness of these themes seems to be creeping more into the public consciousness, with sports stars tweeting about the darkness of the Grammy's and Christian performers pulling out.1  The comedy video below has gained over 170,000 hits on youtube in the past week, its creators present the Grammy award for 'Illuminate Puppet of the Year.'  With the exception of one tasteless joke about Adele, it's very funny and disturbingly accurate.

The Largest Poverty Reduction 'Program' in the History of the Planet

In a follow up to the 'How to Fight Global Poverty' post, here's anarchist philosopher Stefan Molyneux explaining the role economic freedom plays in eradicating poverty, and how state intervention disrupts this process.  We really could see the eradication of poverty within our lifetimes!

The Case for Unlimited Immigration!

Depending on which newspaper you read the UK is currently either sinking under the collective weight of 100million Bulgarian's and Romanian's, or about six of them have arrived since the border controls were dropped.   Either way it's a good time to take a look at the the concepts of border controls and the state's restrictions on the free movement of people.

To be consistent with my anarchist views I would have to advocate a world of complete free movement of people, a world where anyone could move and work anywhere. But is this just a Utopian fantasy?  Would cataclysmic consequences ensue?  According to free-market economist Benjamin Powell, a specialist in the economic development of poor countries, the answer is no, at least as far as the economics goes. Immigrants are not a drag on the economy and they don't 'steal' jobs or depress wages.

Whilst it's good to tackle the economic myths surrounding immigration and alleviate peoples fears, one problem I have with this is that the starting premiss is that immigrants have to justify themselves on the basis that they will benefit us.  I think what we should be questioning is by what right do people in one geographical area deny others the right to come and work there?   I can understand how someone can steal my car say, because my car is a thing that I consider I own.  But in what sense do I own a job, maybe one that I don't even do?   If I don't own it, if it isn't my possession, how can someone else possibly steal it from me?

But if a first world country dropped all immigration controls tomorrow, surely that would be a disaster right?   Millions of people from the third world would flock there causing utter chaos.   It would be like building a dam to prevent flooding, then deciding that it'd been a bad idea and de-constructing it by blowing it up.  Well according to economist Bryan Caplan no, not only should we drop border controls but we should do so immediately.  That's the position he argues in his debate (video below) with Professor Jan Ting, that border controls are a massive violation of human rights that leave everybody worse off and the sooner we get rid of them the better for all.

Maybe future generations will look back and laugh at the illiteracy of a people who thought that enforcing massive restrictions on human movement could somehow be a good thing.

Volgograd Bombings - A State Connection?

In the video below geopolitical annalist James Corbett speculates on the deeper power structures that may lie behind the recent and tragic bombings in Volgograd.  Mr. Corbett speculates that the bombings may be connected to Russia's support for the Assad Regime in Syria and points to the rather interesting statement from Prince Bandar Bin Sultan to Vladimir Putin last August, where he claimed Saudi Intelligence controlled Chechen terrorist groups and that he could protect the Olympics from them, in return for a compromise over Syria.   

It's interesting that whilst Russia Today did not directly raise the possibility of a foreign state being involved in the bombings, by inviting James Corbett on the show they basically ensured that it would be brought up!  Given this is his specialist area it's hard to imagine this wasn't intentional.

Cutting Down The Amazon (.com)

The BBC recently aired a Panorama documentary where they sent an undercover worker into an Amazon distribution centre in Wales.  They discovered that all the things we've been hearing about Amazon recently are true; they treat their staff appallingly, their working conditions are likely to lead to both physical and mental stress and staff can be sacked for not meeting impossibly high targets or just so Amazon can avoid paying benefits full time workers are entitled to.

But here's something I didn't know about Amazon, in addition to not paying taxes they receive millions of pounds of handouts from the British taxpayer.  The Scottish Government gave Amazon a handout of 6.8million pounds on the promise they would create 1700 jobs.   Not to be outdone, the Welsh Government gave them 8.8million and built them their own road ('Ffordd Amazon' – 'Amazon Way') for another 4.9million for 1200 jobs in Swansea.   I'm not sure if they've considered that Amazon are almost certainly destroying more jobs in bookshops and other retail outlets overall than they're creating, I'd be very surprised if this drive to greater efficiency created jobs overall.

The Libertarian philosopher Roderick T. Long argues that in addition to the well know concept of 'economics of scale', there are also 'dis-economics of scale', problems that arise when corporations get too big.  He argues that allot of the super large corporations that we see today are not a product of the free market but rather they come about due to the way the State interferes with the market.   Amazon would seem to be an example of this.   I wouldn't mind the loss of the local bookshops if it really was more efficient just to purchase books online, but it actually might not be as Amazon's low prices must in some part come from their tax advantage and the social welfare cheques they receive.

Those Pesky (GMO) Rats!

The Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology has retracted the now famous 'Seralini study' which linked the consumption of GMO foods with the development of tumours in rats, and gave us the horrible pictures above.  The journal would like to make it clear that this retraction is in no way related to the recent appointment of ex-Monsanto employee Richard E. Goodman to the newly created position of 'Associate Editor for Biotechnology'.  No connection at all.  Neither was the paper retracted on the grounds of methodological errors however, merely on the grounds of its 'inconclusive' nature.

To google 'Seralini' or something like 'GMO rats tumours', you'd be forgiven for thinking that this was the most debunked scientific paper of all time.   According to geopolitical analyst and GMO researcher F. William Engdahl however, Dr. Seralini's study is weathering the storm it's kicked up just fine.   All the criticisms made of it regarding its length of duration and sample sizes apply equally and more so to Monsanto's studies showing GMO's to be safe.   And that's an amazing fact in itself, all studies show GMO's to be safe are sponsored by the GMO industry itself!

Lee Harvey Oswald in Four Minutes

James Corbett has composed this four minute video on the very interesting and unlikely life of Lee Harvey Oswald, the most well connected 'lone nut' there ever was.  

He's also made this longer and comprehensive video – 'Meet Lee Harvey Oswald, Sheep-Dipped Patsy'. Sheep-Dipping is when a military or intelligence agent is given a civilian identity to continue their work after an apparent discharge.  This would explain allot of the inconsistencies surrounding Oswald's life.

How to Fight Global Poverty

Good news doesn't sell, and it's strange how little we hear about the overall decrease in world poverty that has taken place over the last twenty years.  In this Learn Liberty video, Professor Stephen Davies explains how this has come about through an increase in that much derided concept of free trade.

Probably the majority of references I come across to free trade cast it in a negative light, I'm sure not without reason. But in principal at least, it must be the case that not restricting people from exchanging goods freely by drawing artificial lines in the sand must be a good thing mustn't it?

It's amazing to think that we're only ever about fifty years away from the complete eradication of global poverty, if we choose that path.
