Best WeAreChange Confrontations of 2012

WeAreChange is an independent media organisation that points cameras at 'powerful' people and asks them the off limits questions that the mainstream media never would. I love their style, always polite but never compromising. My favourite moment here is Tony Blair's face when he's asked if his attendance of the Bilderberg Group constituted a conflict of interest. Priceless.

Obama Orders Children Murdered

So.....whatever the exact body count is, it seems to be an undeniable fact that Barack Obama has signed of on drone strikes that have killed more children than any school shooting and perhaps all combined.  Yet the media doesn’t present him as a deranged and evil man and the vast majority of people don't think of him this way either.  Far from it he won a Nobel Peace Prize and is Time Magazines Man of the Year.

If you don't see Obama as being just like any other child killer, how do you reconcile this contradiction?  Is Obama's violence ok because it's carried out by the state?  Is it more acceptable to kill children in Pakistan and Yemen than in the USA?  Or is it that Obama doesn't directly intend to kill children, that they are collateral damage?

Happy Birthday Ramana Maharshi

Whoops! It was actually yesterday, I wrote it down wrong.  Oh well better later than never!

Ramana Maharshi, born in 1879, was one of the most influential and enlightening teachers of the philosophy of advaita vedanta (self realisation) in the 20th century. No unnecessary complexity, just straight to the heart of the issue with the contemplation of the eternal question, 'Who am I?'.

Nearly all mankind is more or less unhappy
because nearly all do not know the true Self.
Real happiness abides in Self-knowledge alone.
All else is fleeting.
To know one's Self
is to be blissful always.”

Wanting to reform the world without discovering one's true self is like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes.”

Bliss is not something to be got.
On the other hand you are always Bliss.
This desire [for Bliss] is born of the sense of incompleteness.
To whom is this sense of incompleteness?
Enquire. In deep sleep you were blissful.
Now you are not so.
What has interposed between that Bliss and this non-bliss?
It is the ego.
Seek its source and find you are Bliss.”

Abby Martin on Plato's Cave

I usually think of Plato's cave as being a spiritual allegory, with the cave representing the cosmos or body into which the soul is born or trapped. It is then the souls job to escape the cave into the light, representing the one awareness conceiving all things, our essential identity. Here Abby Martin uses it in a different way, as an allegory of how we are kept separated from knowledge of what's really going on in our world, with the shadows representing the propaganda created by governments and corporate media and the light outside being the true and often disturbing state of affairs.

Abby then asks how comfortable we are in coming to know that the world we believe in is an illusion, that our own governments are purveyors of terrorism on a far grander scale than those they accuse of it. Would we rather go back to sleep?

How Deep Does The Rabbit Hole Go?

This video is a conversation between possibly the two biggest conspiracy theorists in the world, David Icke and Alex Jones. 'Conspiracy theorist' has become a derogatory label, I'd suggest this was part of an intentional plan, but that would make me a conspiracy theorist!

Once it is acknowledge that there is indeed a rabbit hole, the question becomes 'how deep does the hole go?' Is it all corporations, financial institutions and politicians acting with profit driven yet short sighted motivations? Most of the time this is how the world appears to me. Occasionally however, something emerges that is hard to explain in this context, so I recognise that I really don't know how the world is working and keep an open mind that the rabbit hole might go really very deep indeed.

David Icke thinks it does and in this interview he presents his view that dark demonic like beings are ultimately pulling the cords of power in this world. He equates these beings with what the Gnostics called the archon's, the beings the Apostle Paul is referring to when he speaks of 'the rulers of this age'.

I have no idea whether there's any truth in this or not. What fascinates me though, is the continuous re-emergence of the gnostic idea that the world is ruled over by dark demonic forces that must be overcome, sometimes in literature in films like the Matrix and here very literally with David Icke.

Book Review - Meltdown Thomas E Woods

Opinion seems to be almost unanimous that the cause of the economic crash of 2008 was a lack of government oversight and regulation of the economy. Writing from the perspective of the Austrian school of Economics, Tom Woods presents the opposing view. In this book he builds the case that far from being the solution to problems, governments, in particular central banks, are the cause of boom and bust cycles and our economic woes.

If you've ever thought there was something strange about the idea that governments can spend their way out of debt (stimulus package), or that printing money would help the economy (quantitative easing), or just that government are likely to regulate for the public good as opposed to the good of corporations then this book may be of interest to you. At less than 200 pages it's concise, well written (I could basically understand it and I don't have any flare for economics!) and as a bonus quite funny too.

It's my view that a minority of people seem to be able to take the piss out of the rest of us, because they understand the rules by which the money game is played and we don't. If we're ever going to have true economic justice that has to change.

DEAD WRONG - How Psychiatric Drugs Can Kill Your Child

Above is a documentary featuring Celeste Steubing, a mother who investigated the role that psychiatric drugs may have played in her teenage sons suicide. She met many other parents in the same position. Below is a link to an article by Mike Adams of Natural News, questioning the link between psychiatric drugs and school shootings. Is there another culprit, other than guns, that needs to be looked at here?

Texas School's 'Guardian Plan' Allows Teachers To Have Guns

An alternative solution to the problem. If you ran a school in the USA, would you keep guns on the premisses? Would would want your child to go to a school that kept guns?

Piers Morgan Vs Larry Pratt on Gun Control

For years Private Eye magazine referred to Piers Morgan as Piers Moron, I now feel they were quite justified in doing so.  Some of the American media I read is very pro-gun, until the events of the past week I've never really looked into it having no interest in guns myself. What the likes of Larry Pratt seem to be claiming, is that America is not the free gun zone we imagine it to be, that there are areas where guns are restricted and this is where all the mass shootings occur. Outside of these restricted areas, gun crime is quite low.

There seems to be a unanimous view on this side of the world that gun control will keep everyone safe and is the moral thing to do. Those opposed to it are amoral and couldn't care less about children being shot just so long as they can remain armed to the teeth. I don't think this is true, in fact the opposite argument could be made. It's hard to imagine that the USA will be a safer country when only the criminals have guns.

Let's get the ball rolling with something positive.
