Abby Martin on Plato's Cave

I usually think of Plato's cave as being a spiritual allegory, with the cave representing the cosmos or body into which the soul is born or trapped. It is then the souls job to escape the cave into the light, representing the one awareness conceiving all things, our essential identity. Here Abby Martin uses it in a different way, as an allegory of how we are kept separated from knowledge of what's really going on in our world, with the shadows representing the propaganda created by governments and corporate media and the light outside being the true and often disturbing state of affairs.

Abby then asks how comfortable we are in coming to know that the world we believe in is an illusion, that our own governments are purveyors of terrorism on a far grander scale than those they accuse of it. Would we rather go back to sleep?
